The scale height and luminosity function of DA white dwarfs are determined based on a sample of 41 spectroscopically identified faint white dwarfs which are part of the AAT QSO survey (Boyle et al., 1988). Using the value for the scale height of 275 + or - 50 pc calculated by maximum likelihood techniques, the local luminosity function for the AAT sample is shown to agree well with that obtained for a Palomar DA white dwarf sample, particularly in the overall normalization of the luminosity function. The local space density of DA white dwarfs with Mv of less than 12.75 mag is found to be 0.60 + or - 0.09/1000 cu pc.
