Noctilucent clouds ('those silver-blue cloudlets') are the subject of a special long-term study of the Aurora Section. Regular visual observations, principally by members of the Section, have been made systematically over a period of at least 25 years. The data assembled by the Section are especially useful in current research. What noctilucent clouds are, how they are thought to occur, and what future research lines seem likely, are reviewed in this contribution.
