The European Space Astronomy Centre (ESAC) Faculty held its first workshop under the title "X-rays from Nearby Galaxies" from the 5th to the 7th of September 2007 at the ESAC facility near Madrid, Spain. The meeting was intended to review latest results in the field of X-ray emission from nearby galaxies and to identify the most critical unsolved problems. It was attended by about 70 scientists from around the World. This report presents 36 contributions to the workshop, with topics ranging from point-like X-ray sources and diffuse emission of nearby galaxies to the discussion of global properties of their X-ray emission and the role of the galactic environment and interactions.
