Spitzer observations have discovered or confirmed the presence of synchrotron jets in X-ray binaries (XRBs) containing both neutron stars and black holes. Understanding the origin, total power, and duty cycle of this emission is important for understanding the accretion process in XRBs and, by extension, jet processes in other sources. We propose to reobserve the XRB GX 17+2 during bright time windows in June or July when its entire IR cycle can be measured. This will allow us to determine the jet opening angle. We observed this source using the 2.1 m last season but only caught its brightening phase. There are a number of other XRBs (e.g., GRS1915+105) that have highly variable near- infrared emission, but these objects have never been adequately monitored to measure the amplitude and duty cycles of their variations. During the non-outburst nights for GX 17+2, we will monitor three other XRBs with known synchrotron emission to create near-infrared light curves. We request 9 nights with SQIID on the 2.1 m.
