Interplanetary Plasma: Turbulence

Scientific paper

Self-similar energy spectra of the turbulence of whistlers and unmagnetized ionosonic waves in a low-pressure magnetoactive plasma are found using the frequency-dependence of the probabilities of the possible decay processes. Comparison with the experimental data shows that solar-wind turbulence in the wave-number range ωpi/c ⪉ k ⪉ ωpe/c is primarily associated with whistlers, with waves propagating quasi-transversely with respect to the regular magnetic field playing a significant role.
