This proposal is part of the Monitor project which aims to identify and characterize low-mass eclipsing binary systems in young open clusters. Here, we aim to obtain high precision, high cadence, multi- band (V,I/i) photometric lightcurves of 10 candidate pre-main sequence eclipsing binaries in two young clusters: NGC 2362 (5 Myr) and NGC 2547 (40 Myr). When combined with spectroscopic observations (scheduled Dec 2007), the multi-band photometry will allow us to fully characterize the systems and derive accurate masses, radii, temperatures, and luminosities for the components of the binaries. Pre main sequence eclipsing binaries are extremely important for testing and calibrating stellar evolution models. However, at the young ages of these clusters, there are currently NO empirical constraints on the fundamental properties of late-type stars.
