An analysis of the close detached binary DA white dwarf system L870-2 is presented, with the aim of determining atmospheric parameters for both components of the system. Medium-resolution spectrophotometry of the high Balmer lines, Stroemgren photometry, and the observed luminosity excess are used, together with the observed mass ratio, to constrain the effective temperature and surface gravity of each star. Values obtained included T(1) = 7470 + or - 500 K, log g(1) = 7.80 + or - 0.10, T(2) = 6920 + or - 500 K, log g(2) = 7.89 + or - 0.10. The corresponding masses are 0.47 + or - 0.05 M solar mass and 0.52 + or - 0.05 solar mass for an assumed helium core composition.
