The principles of the spectral speckle interferometry method of Baba et al. (1988), which is based on the shift-and-add procedure of Bates and Cady (1980), are outlined together with the experimental setup. Special attention given to the data reduction procedure, which is described in detail. It is emphasized, that this method is particularly useful for the analysis of spectra of multiple-star systems. An optics diagram of the speckle spectrometer is presented.
