Solar observations are presently employed to derive the net polarization emerging from integrated active regions, and to demonstrate that the polarization which can be expected from the unresolved solar disk is nearly undetectable. While late-type stars with a large coverage of active regions may yield larger polarizations, consideration of previous polarization measurements on late-type dwarfs with a well-known magnetic field shows that the polarization due to saturation is barely visible in the observational noise.
