Some of the most important results obtained from the Hubble Space Telescope during its first two years of operation are reviewed, with attention given to observations of objects both within and beyond the solar system. In particular, within the solar system, observations of the giant planets, Jupiter and Saturn, monitoring of the Mars atmosphere, and obtaining clear separate images of Pluto and Charon are discussed. Beyond the solar system, the results include new details of the Orion Nebula; observations of the formation of a small nebula, Homunculus, around Eta Carinae; observations of the globular cluster M15 suggesting that it does not harbor a black hole at its center; views of the remnant of SN 1987A; and evidence corroborating the existence of a huge black hole in the giant elliptical galaxy M87. Hubble observations which help to test and refine the big bang theory are also discussed.
