In his interesting paper on Thomas Harriot in the 2008 December Journal,
Dr Allan Chapman discusses the possibility of a "Tudor telescope" having
been invented before the well-documented Dutch invention of 1608. He
presents cogent arguments as to why this was not the case; I fully agree
with these, and can add a further reason: impracticality of the design.
