The present work discusses some recent experimental and theoretical work resulting in the extension of the list of identified molecules and ions in interstellar space. There are many lines recorded by a millimetric radio telescope which probably correspond to free radicals which are unstable under laboratory conditions, so that their structure cannot be studied. These radicals survive for a long time in interstellar space on account of the very low density of interstellar clouds. The C2H radical, unstable in the gaseous state in the laboratory, has, however, been studied frozen in a matrix of an inert gas. Although under these conditions its rotation is blocked, rough measurements of spin doubly could be made and its hyperfine structure was determined, so that identification of four lines around 87 GHz with C2H was possible. The N2H(plus) ion is a case where ab initio theoretical calculations led to its identification with three lines around 93.1 GHz.
