Present knowledge concerning millisecond pulsars is reviewed. The nature of a radio pulsar and the BP diagrams of pulsars are described, and the maximum rotation of neutron stars is discussed. The discovery of millisecond pulsars is recounted, and the origin of these stars from recycling of neutron stars in close X-ray binaries is examined. It is shown how the double wind from millisecond pulsars forms pulsar fogs which can be optically detected.
