During the period July 14-Sept. 11, 1973, about 25,000 television pictures of Mars were obtained using a 0.7-m telescope in ten spectral regions. A dust storm in moderate latitudes was recorded. It started before Mars passed perigee. During the observation period the atmosphere was gradually clearing. About 3000 pictures of Mars were taken using a 0.5-m meniscus telescope during the period of Nov. 19, 1973-Feb. 19, 1974. On November 19, the atmosphere was very hazy and heavy dust clouds were recorded. The second dust storm cleared during December through January.
