Calculations were made of the summer, winter, and annual insolations at various latitudes in both hemispheres of the planet Mars over the past million years. It was found that the total solar radiation received on Mars varies over a much wider range than on earth. Moreover, the variations in annual insolation on Mars reach high values. It is concluded that periods of intense cooling alternated with warm epochs in the history of the Martian climate.
