A new model for the solar wind expansion out of diverging magnetic field configurations is proposed. By use of natural curvilinear coordinates the equations of a quasi-two-fluid model are solved along the field lines of such configurations. This allows a detailed analysis of the plasma parameters within a coronal hole and the calculation of the electric currents caused by the expanding plasma. It is then possible to iterate the plasma/magnetic-field interaction and obtain information about the degree of self-consistency of the computed solution in each iteration step. A method to determine the exact self-consistent solution is outlined.
