THE recent observation of a ``quasi-sinusoidal'' period variation in the pulsar NP 0532 has been attributed to perturbations produced by a planetary companion with an orbital period of about three months and a minimum mass of 1.0 M⊕ assuming the mass of the pulsar to be 1 Msolar (ref. 1). It is therefore desirable to investigate the orbit of a planet after a supernova explosion of the central star, and the effect of the new orbit on the observed period of the pulsar.
