Methods used for mapping the optical characteristics of the moon, based on photographic photometry and equidensitometry, are explained. Ground-based photographs of the moon taken in 1949 and 1970 were used to compile photometric, albedo, and color maps of the visible lunar hemisphere. The compilation involves plotting a system of isolines on a coordinate grid corresponding to the lunar libration at which the initial photographs were taken. The resolution of the maps is discussed.
