In the quest to better understand the conversion of the Crab pulsar's rotational energy into synchrotron radiation a comparison was made between the measured soft X-ray brightness distribution of the Crab nebula with simulated data. The soft X-ray data obtained in 1979 by the High Resolution Imager on the EINSTEIN-Observatory was compared with the brightness distribution of a three-dimensional model based on theoretical concepts.
