We show that the observations of the polarization and colors in the reflection nebula surrounding VY CMa can be roughly reproduced by a simple spherically symmetric model. To account for both the near greyness of the scattered light and the very high polarization, we suggest both that the dust grains are somewhat larger than those in the normal interstellar gas and that the grains have a large imaginary component of their index of refraction. Using these same grains, we sketch a model to explain the observed infrared linear and circular polarization.
