Evidence for solar-like magnetic activity on other stars is discussed. This evidence can reveal much about the way in which magnetic activity levels depend on global stellar parameters. Conversely, it now seems that dynamo-generated stellar magnetic fields may themselves modify the rotational evolution of solar type stars significantly. The use of time resolved UV spectroscopy and high resolution imaging with the Solar Interferometric Mission for Ultrahigh Resolution, Imaging and Spectroscopy (SIMURIS) to advance understanding of the structure and evolution of local magnetic structures in stellar environments, on scales from fractions of a stellar radius to a few tens of AU, are discussed.
