Evidence of the fine structure shown by prominence imaging is discussed, and evidence of small magnetic field structuring is identified. Velocity measurements that point to fine structure are presented. The status of the most recent results in NLTE modeling and the progress made towards realistic radiative transfer computations with numerous fine structures like threads are given. It is shown that the prominence corona transition region is also characterized by small scale structures. The exciting prospects offered by very high resolution observations possible with SIMURUS (Solar, solar system and stellar Interferometric Mission for Ultrahigh Resolution Imaging and Spectroscopy) are considered.
