Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) molecules are among the major candidates that have been proposed in the past to explain a class of infrared bands, the so-called unidentified infrared bands (UIBs), detected in emission toward a wide variety of Galactic sources rich in ultraviolet flux. Up to now, laboratory measurements on representative PAH molecules have been mostly performed in absorption. This Letter presents infrared thermal emission spectra of three PAHs, coronene, chrysene, and 1-methylcoronene, obtained at a temperature of 240 C. These data may help clarify open questions concerning both the presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and the actual emission mechanisms active in space.
