The light curve of supernova 1987A is widely regarded as unusual, and
perhaps anomalous. Using bolometric light curves, it is shown that the
event is a natural intermediate case between supernovae of Types SNIa,
SNIb, and bright SNII (SNII-L and SNII-P). An observational opportunity
for the study of galactic evolution is mentioned.
