The origin and some peculiarities of the global system of field-aligned currents in the region 1 at the dayside of the magnetosphere are investigated theoretically. The formula for the component of the current normal to the boundary near the tangential discontinuity (if the plasma is frozen in the magnetic field) is derived following the frozen-in equation. Assuming that the plasma density obeys the model of Gold's (1959) distribution, it is found that, if the component of the current is closed in the ionosphere, a system of field-aligned currents is created which is consistent with the Triad data (Zmuda et al., 1970) on the value, direction, and distribution with the local time.
