The use of the new THX 31513 linear array from Thomson under direct electron bombardment has been investigated in order to develop a linear photon counting device. This array exhibits no persistence, in contrast to previous SPOT arrays. Proper photoelectron detection is achieved, and the possibility of discriminating between single and double events permits the mean counting rate to be increased to one event per readout time and per pixel, i.e., up to 1000 cts/s/pixel.
