Hot accretion disks developing in the inner accretion flows onto supermassive black holes produce copious amounts of relativistic electron-positron pairs, X-rays and gamma-rays. The relativistic pairs upscatter the X-rays emanating from the disk and produce gamma-rays up to about 300 MeV. These coupled with pion produced gamma-rays are blueshifted in the disk and emerge with energies of hundreds of MeV. Penrose pair-produced pairs emerge with energies up to 4-5 GeV. Hot accretion disks are discussed in the context of high energy extragalactic sources like 3C 279.
