It has been widely accepted that objects such as galaxies and galaxy clusters form via gravitational growth of initial density fluctuations. Here in order to obtain a basic framework of structure formation based on the above picture, it is shown how to obtain a mass function of objects and merging histories from the distribution function of initial density fluctuation.
