Using the new Livermore opacities, the evolution and stability of stars in the mass range 9 t0 20 solar masses with initial metallicities Z=0.02 and Z=0.03 is investigated. For Z=0.03 and M=15 solar masses, radial and non-radial pulsations are found (Kiriakidis, El Eid, Glatzel, 1992) to be unstable for 4.33 < log Teff < 4.43. A reexamination of these computations using the recently improved Livermore opacities with intermediate Fe-coupling (Iglesias and Rogers, 1992) is in progress. The implications of the results for the beta --Cepheid stars are discussed. M. Kiriakidis, M.F. El Eid, W. Glatzel, 1992, Month. Not. R.A.S, 255, 1P C.A. Iglesias, F.J. Rogers, B.G.
