Bulge and disk parameters of M 51 have been measured by two-dimensional B photometry. A redetermination of the inclination is made, both by classical isophotometry and by using a new technique which compares mass-to-light ratios determined from emission line rotation velocities and absorption line velocity dispersions. A mean value of 35° is obtained, and the mass to luminosity ratio of the bulge and the disk are derived.
