The interferometer at CERGA was used to detect scattering effects in stellar atmospheres. Fringes were observed on Alpha Lyrae both in natural and linearly polarized light; the apparent diameter of this star did not change significantly in the two orthogonal planes of polarization at 6400 A. It is concluded that the next-generation interferometer with single apertures of 1.5 m should provide new information on stellar atmospheres and magnetic fields.
