A scattering-type equation is derived for cyclotron photons absorbed and re-emitted by electrons in their lowest Landau orbital. An adjunct equation describing the the parallel momentum of the electrons is also derived. The effects of induced emission are taken into account fully; induced terms appear explicitly in the transfer equation as induced-scattering-like terms and implicitly in a "correction factor for stimulated emission" in the effective scattering probability.
It is pointed out that the parallel velocity spread of the electrons and the bandwidth of the cyclotron line are strongly coupled in Her X-l.
