Line broadenings in the transition zone C IV line have been observed for many years, in particular by the HRTS instruments. Similarly, coronal oscillations such as winking filaments and doppler shifts in the Fe XIV lambda 5303 line are also familiar features. By modelling newly emerging flux by a small, bipolar current-carrying loop, we find that oscillations of this loop can account for the 100 km/sec line broadening seen in the C IV data. Using a similar global loop model, the coronal oscillations are also examined. It will be shown that a small change in the current passing along a loop can readily account for the coronal oscillations at 300, 80 and 43 seconds reported by Koutchmy and collaborators. Also, if a quiescent filament is modelled by a current carrying loop, it is found that the overall properties of winking filaments can be reproduced by a perturbation on the loop, such as would arise due to a distant flare. In the coronal examples, knowledge of the period of oscillation, the density and geometry of the loop serves to determine the magnetic field strength, which are a few to < 50 G in each case. The advantage of this loop model over more simplistic Alfven wave models for these events will be stressed.
