We have used an analytical model to fit separately all three components of the solar wind electron velocity distribution functions (i.e., the core, the halo, and the strahl) measured by the HELIOS spacecraft. From the radial evolution of the model parameters between 0.3 and 1 AU, we extrapolate empirically the solar wind electron properties backward to 10 Rs, the expected perihelion for the Solar Probe Plus mission. We find that at 10 Rs all the non thermal solar wind electrons are contained in the strahl population, providing a large heat flux that we compare to various solar wind models, including exospheric ones.
