An objective prism survey in the red spectral region was completed in 1976 which covered approximately 2% of the sky at intermediate south galactic latitudes. A kinematically unbiased sample of late red dwarf stars was assembled from the stars detected in this survey. The luminosity function was computed for stars in the range of absolute visual magnitudes from 11.5 to 14.5. The kinematic properties of stars from this sample having absolute magnitudes ≥ 10.5 are compared with those of a group of K and M dwarfs selected from the Catalogue of Stars Within 25 Parsec of the Sun (Woolley et al., 1970).
