By combining stellar data from the solar neighborhood with an age dependent density law for halo and disk components and a chemical evolution function the authors have constructed a model of stellar populations in the Galaxy. Comparison of actual star counts with synthetic ones derived from the model provides useful constraints to improve the initially adopted distributions.
