From the luminosity function, the authors have obtained the expected composition of the star population in the solar neighborhood (22 pc). For this purpose Erickson's selection of Gliese's Catalogue was extended by using selected M stars obtained from the AGK3 and SAO Catalogues. These additional stars are low-velocity stars. The authors have calculated the central momenta of the local stellar velocity distribution up to the fourth order and studied the influence of the additional stars on local galactic kinematics.
