Over 60 new cool degenerates with Mv ≥ 14 have been confirmed since Sion and Liebert's (1977) estimate of the white dwarf luminosity function, including some stars nearly 100 pc away. However, there is as yet no degenerate star demonstrated to have MBol ≥ 16. The redetermination for single stars indicates a luminosity function peak at +14 ≤ MBol ≤ +15, or near 10-4L_sun;. A falloff at lower luminosities is also indicated from searches for binary companions.
