All IUE observations of BL Lac objects or suspected BL Lac obects, comprising 25 objects with m(v) less than 16, are examined in this paper using data obtained by various authors. The UV fluxes and UV spectral indices are presented, and spectral indices in the IR and optical bands are derived from the literature, making suitable corrections. The distribution of spectral indices in the UV band and from UV to X-ray bands are shown, and the monochromatic X-ray luminosity is plotted as a function of UV luminosity. The UV-optical range spectra of quasars are much flatter than those of the BL Lac objects, while the average UV to X-ray slope is very similar for both populations.
