Regression analysis is used to develop a statistical model of median values of the critical frequency of the ionospheric F2-layer. Fields of experimental data are expanded in a series of natural orthogonal functions. Natural orthogonal functions of time, season, and coordinate, and the probability distribution of relative error for the model are presented. It is noted that this model can be used for the long-term forecasting of ionospheric conditions.
