Scientific paper
Activities in X-ray, ultraviolet and infrared astronomy using suborbital space vehicles are discussed. The advantages of long observation times on balloon flights for X-ray astronomy are underlined. The use of rockets for space qualification tests of mirrors for satellite-borne ultraviolet astronomy is discussed. Cryogenically cooled infrared astronomy instruments are mentioned.
