A two dimensional atmospheric model in which photochemistry and dynamics are coupled was developed. The model extends from pole to pole, from 16 to 116 km altitude. The importance of the interactions between dynamics and chemistry are examined, and the type of simulation model required is considered. Factors contributing to distributions of trace species in the mesosphere and stratosphere are discussed. It is suggested that the level of required model complexity varies with altitude and the species considered. The many uncertainties and approximations in dynamical and chemical descriptions are pointed out.
