[2415] Ionosphere / Equatorial Ionosphere
Scientific paper
In 2008, three Coherent Ionospheric Doppler Receivers (CIDRs) were deployed to Egypt to create the Ionospheric Tomography Network of Egypt (ITNE). CIDRs collect differential total electron content (TEC) measurements from the Doppler shifts in UHF and VHF signals transmitted by beacon on low-Earth-orbiting satellites. One of the objectives of ITNE is to study the variability of the northern crest of the equatorial anomaly. Here, we report on some initial observations of wave-like plasma structures at dusk in the equatorial ionosphere. We will discuss the CIDR measurements, and the provide details on the receiver located at Helwan University. We will present CIDR measurements indicating wave-like structures, and provide some preliminary statistics on the locations and occurrence frequency of these structures. We will discuss the possible connection between these features and the equatorial fountain peak.
