A 9-day periodic oscillation in solar wind speed, geomagnetic activity and thermosphere neutral density for year 2005 has been reported in previous studies and it is proposed to be caused by the high-speed solar wind streams (HSSs) from the three coronal holes evenly distributed in longitude on Sun. In order to investigate the Joule heating responding to the variation of solar wind speed associated with this 9-day periodic oscillation, we use two different models, Assimilative Mapping of Ionospheric Electrodynamics (AMIE) procedure and the empirical model Weimer2005 to calculate the global Joule heating. Lomb-Scargle spectral analysis presents the 9-day periodicity in Joule heating. AMIE shows much more and larger oscillations in Joule heating than Weimer2005. After a band-pass filter from 6 to 12 day, Joule heating from AMIE has sensitivity to the solar wind speed about 1.62 times larger than the one calculated from Weimer2005. Furthermore, we compare the model results with observations from DMSP and NOAA satellites.
