Golay and his collaborators have defined a system of stellar boxes in the Geneva photometric system by which stars can be grouped together if their photometric measures are very close to another star, the central star in the box. In this paper a three-dimensional photometric space is defined in the four-colour system, using the magnitudes b, v, and u or the colors [c], [m], and β. In the first case, unreddened magnitudes from the catalogue of Philip and Egret are used to study the distribution of stars in the boxes, in the second case bracket quantities and the Hβ index which are unaffected by interstellar reddening are used. The distribution of stellar boxes with spectral type and the relations of Geneva stellar boxes and four-color boxes are investigated.
