A very long-period (96 days) eclipsing system UU Cnc was observed with the 61-cm telescope at Yonsei University Observatory from 1984 to 1988, using the Johnson UBV filters. This late-type system (K4I) has a beta Lyrae-type light curve. The Wilson-Devinney method was employed to derive our photometric solution. The system was found to have a contact configuration with a mass ratio of 0.3. Absolute dimensions have been calculated from the combined photometric solution and spectroscopic solution of Popper (1977). The system consists of two supergaint components (44M; M ,167 R R and 13M ,M; 103R R R). It is believed that UU Cnc is an evolved contact under Case B mass loss. This system is very similar to three other very long-period late-type systems: 5 Cet (96 days, K2I), HD104901B (106 days, F0Ib-II), and PWPup (158 days, F2pIab). It is believed that both Winiarski & Zola (1987) and Barone et al. (1989) found their solutions at the same localized minimum in ¢2-q plane instead of the globule minimum. This accounts for the major difference between this study and the previous work.
