Tectoism in the Valles Marineris appears to have been accompanied by
volcanism. The proposed volcanic features, though probably
contemporaneous with the gigantic ones in the Tharsis area, are composed
of small, mafic and, possibly, somewhat larger felsic flows. The size of
these features is similar to that of volcanic flows on the Earth.
