Stars: Double And Multiple

Scientific paper

A sample of visual syb-systems from the Multiple Star Catalog (Tokovinin, 1997, Cat. ) is selected where the apparent sense of rotation (prograde or retrograde) at two adjacent hierarchical levels can be determined from observations. This sample is used to compute the sign correlation which, in turn, is related to the average angle between the orbital angular momentum vectors of inner and outer sub-systems. It is shown that the vectors are weakly correlated, and that the correlation decreases with increasing ratio of outer to inner periods. (1 data file).
