A grid of models has been calculated in the Sobolev approximation, to investigate the effects of a velocity "plateau" on P Cygni profiles. In particular, the authors are interested in the relevance of such a plateau to observations of narrow components in UV spectra. Although they can produce profiles which resemble those observed, with the parameterisation the authors employed it is difficult to find models consistent with the most plausible physical mechanism for plateau production, viz. multiple scattering of photons.
