Solar synthetic spectra have been computed for a number of lines of the CH A2Δ - X2Π system. With the Holweger-Müller (1974) model and Lambert's (1978) abundance of carbon, they imply solar CH band f-values which are about 20% lower than the corresponding laboratory values and the solar f-values derived from equivalent width data given by Grevesse and Sauval (1973). The results are discussed in the light of the effects of predissociation in the A2Δ state described by Brzozowski et al. (1976). It is also shown that solar CH f-values can be used for stellar studies by the differential method only if the chosen stellar model atmospheres are consistent with the adopted solar model.
